American rapper Waka Flocka Flame is known to many in his native country, and his work is also familiar to
hip-hop fans worldwide. He's been passionate about music since childhood, and as an adult, he realized his dream
and now shines on stage and enjoys a loyal fan base. He collaborates with several labels, which help promote his
work to a wider audience.
Childhood
Joaquin Malphurs (his birth name) was born in New York City in the spring of 1981, where he spent the first
years of his life.
In 2001, the rapper's family moved to Riverdale. His mother, Debra, worked as the executive director of So
Icey/Mizay Entertainment and was also the first manager of the popular rapper Gucci Mane. Meeting him inspired
Mane to develop as a musician.
Creation
Waka Flocka Flame debuted on stage with the single "O Let's Do It," which received widespread acclaim and
reached the top 100 of the US Billboard Hot 100. Soon after, he was attacked, though the attacker only injured
his arm, so he quickly returned to action. Six months later, the artist released his first full-length album,
Flockaveli. For his prolific output, MTV named him one of the top ten rappers of 2010. His colleague Gucci Mane
also helped promote the American through his concerts and performances.
Waka Flocka Flame and Gucci Mane subsequently collaborated extensively and even recorded the album Ferrari Boyz,
released in 2011. The single "She Be Puttin' On" featured the rapper's good friend Slim Dunkin. He also starred
in the music video for the track. While working in the studio, Slim Dunkin was shot three times in the head and
died in intensive care. This was a great tragedy for the musician.
The musician released his second solo album, Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family, in the summer of 2012. Just
six months later, he announced to fans that his third album, Flockaveli-2, was ready for release, but for some
reason, he was hesitant to release it. He recorded songs for the album with Wyclef Jean and Timbaland.
Throughout this time, he continued collaborating with other hip-hop icons. The song "DuFlocka Rant 2," which he
released at the same time, features Young Scooter, Gucci Mane, French Montana, Lil Wayne, and others.
Waka Flocka Flame Now
After a couple of years of creative silence, in November 2019, Waka Flocka Flame announced on Twitter the
release of previously unreleased songs in 2020 on the compilation album Dropping hella music 2020.
It's worth noting that fans had been awaiting the rapper's new album, Flockaveli 2, for many years, but he
stated that he had no plans to release it because the tracks no longer fit his current sound. His recent
inactivity hasn't diminished his popularity; Waka Flocka Flame fans still eagerly await new projects from their
beloved artist.
